Trekking Confluencia

Enjoy a moderate-level trek in Aconcagua Provincial Park, surrounded by spectacular landscapes: the Horcones Lagoon rich in flora and fauna, the grandeur of Aconcagua’s South Face with hanging glaciers, culminating at the scenic Confluencia Camp.

Open from November to April (subject to operational conditions), this excursion starts at the Alfredo Magnani Visitor Center in the Horcones Valley. Access is via National Route 7 from Mendoza (~2 h 50 min by car). Parking is available at the entrance. Entry tickets must be purchased online in advance, as payment on-site is not possible.

Main highlights

  • Horcones Lagoon: formed by glacial meltwater and set in a valley shaped by water, wind, and glaciers. It hosts rich aquatic flora and attracts birds and amphibians, including the Andean toad.
  • South Face Viewpoint: a short trail that offers striking views of icefalls and hanging glaciers on Aconcagua’s southern wall.
  • Suspension bridge at Quebrada del Durazno: along the well-marked path, this bridge adds a touch of adventure to the trek.
  • Confluencia Camp: a key acclimatization base at 3,300–3,450 m a.s.l., and starting point for treks to Plaza Francia or Plaza de Mulas.
